| Saturday, September 26 10 – 12 AM PST Becoming a Bodhisattva When we hear that the spiritual goal in Buddhism is “enlightenment,” we might start out with an idealized notion of what that might be, and how we might experience it. It’s not until we read more deeply in Buddhist teaching that becoming an enlightened being is a process, not a product, and that we mature spiritually through the practice of the bodhisattva path – learning love for ourselves and others, and developing skills in working with our own mental afflictions. What does it mean to “hold the mind of enlightenment?” This class will cover the basics of enlightenment, as well as showing the path for developing it. |

In this system, we choose a teacher by shopping for the most informative system that will bring us the best result. But if we try to use this system to choose a spiritual teaching, it will really fall short. Why? Because in spiritual education, the most important factor is not the academic credential of a teacher, but rather whether the teacher has accomplished spiritual qualities from their practice. This class will cover the meaning of spiritual lineage and how we can relate to a spiritual teacher. |
